Marsh Magic Guide Service

Capt. Wes Coward

Hometown: Delco, NC
Occupation: Retired English Teacher / Professional Fish and Waterfowl Guide
USCG 100 ton Master Captain; Ducks Unlimited Silver Member; Certified NC/Federal Waterfowl Taxidermist

Setting foot in the Pamlico at a mere six years old, Captain Wes Coward has thought about, hunted, mounted and dreamed of ducks since way before it became cool to do so. His travels in their pursuit include some twenty U.S. States, Mexico, Canada and even Scotland. From the old curtain blinds in Okracoke and Portsmouth to the cypress swamps of North Carolina’s sweet water rivers, he has been there. A veteran English teacher of 29 years, his passion for the outdoors led him to Alaska where in the Summer he guides and fishes Kodiak Island and the Prince of Wales’ waters for halibut, rockfish and salmon. The winter months allow Capt. Wes to head up Marsh Magic Guide Service, which specializes in scissors rig and layout waterfowl hunting on the famed Pamlico Sound. He also runs a successful waterfowl taxidermy studio (Marsh Magic Taxidermy) and completes 60 - 100 mounts a year. When Dixie Decoys was introduced by a friend, it quickly became apparent that their quality and company philosophy were things that are seldom found in the industry. “This is way more than a sport to me and the history is important. The fact that Dixie Decoys shares the same enthusiasm for quality and the same love for the history of waterfowling as I do makes using their products all the sweeter.”
